Sunflower Gite

The stylish gite is located in a small hamlet near the historic town of Cognac and is a perfect retreat to unwind and enjoy everything the region has to offer.  The secluded grounds which houses an elegant 19th century manor house also has an organic fruit orchard, walled garden and a smart pool area to share with b&b guests.

Interior

The interior of the gite is open plan and painted in soft blue hues.  The living area has two comfortable sofas, a dining table and antique dresser.  There is satelite TV, DVD and wireless internet.  The kitchen is well equipped with electric cooker and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave.  There are two large bedrooms, one double and one twin with seagrass carpets and both with gorgeous views.  There is an en-suite shower room to bedroom one and an en-suite bathroom for bedroom two with high spec fixtures and fittings. The beds are fitted with luxurious Egyptian cotton and pool and bath towels are provided.  Evening meals and breakfast can also be had in the main manor house for an extra cost but may be worth it if you don't feel like cooking!

Outside

Step out from the gite through large French Windows onto your own private, spacious terrace and enjoy stunning, undisturbed views across the meadow land.  The terrace has a hardwood table and chairs, parasol, sun loungers and a large barbecue.  There is a large poolside area with plenty of sunloungers and tables which is shared with b&b guests from the main manor house.  Benches are dotted throughout the garden for a relaxing moment with a book and glass of wine with the only sound of birdsong and the occasional tractor!

Sunflower Gite is located in a small hamlet in the charming Charente Maritime region of South West France near the historic town of Cognac.  On the atlantic coast the chic town of La Rochelle, famous for it's old harbour  is just over an hour's drive west and Bordeaux is an hour and a half drive south.  The nearest village is a mile and a half away and has a boulangerie, butcher and small general store.  Bars, restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies and banks all within a ten minute drive.

La Rochelle

A delightful medieval town on the Atlantic coast with a vibrant lifestyle attracting an international set with plenty of trendy harbour side bars and excellent restaurants.  Events take place throughout the year and in the summer there is an international film festival. 

Bordeaux

Renowned for its world famous wines and cultural way of life, the town of Bordeaux is just over an hour away. 

Cognac

The world's best-known brandy comes from the peaceful countryside surrounding the Charente River.  The medieval town is attractive with its narrow medieval cobbled streets and elegant Renaissance facades. The surrounding area is covered with acres of sunflowers and vineyards and the region is famous for cognac distillation.  Tours can be arranged for tastings at local producers. 

The Cognac Blues Passion Festival takes place every July and famous artists such as Duffy, Seal and Jamie Cullen have all performed here in recent years. 

The Atlantic coast has a natural, wild beauty with glorious sand dunes.  For beaches, St Georges de Didonne south of Royan is a delightful beach. Also try out St Palais sur Mer. All have their own charms. La Palmyre (90 mins by car) Situated between Royan and La Rochelle, Zoo de la Palmyre has over 1600 'residents' including Polar Bears, Gorillas, Siberian Tigers, Rhinoceroses and Elephants and is a great day out. La Palmyre also boasts one of the largest and less crowded beaches in the area. Chatelaillon Plage (60 mins by car).  There are six golf courses within an hour's drive.

The area is served well by low cost and schedule airlines with 4 airports within an hour and a half from the gite.  The nearest ferry port is Saint Malo (from Portsmouth on Brittany ferries).
